At a Legal Meeting of the Inhabitants of the Town of Beverly October 16 1779.
Col. Larkin Thorndike was chosen Moderator.
Voted. That the Town will open a subscription for the sum of six thousand pound for the purposes
of procuring the men sent for from this Town agreeable to the resolve of the General Court
th
of the 9 instant to be on interest till paid the person that receives the money, to give receipts
therefore and return their subscription list to the Selectmen when they have completed the
same and the Standing Committee appointed to procure the abovesaid men are empowered
to present and carry about the above said subscription and receive the money they shall get
subscribed and be accountable for the same. And the several Constables of this Town are
hereby directed to receive and discharge the above said proceeds in payment of the next
Town Tax allowing interest for the same till paid.
Lieut. Peter Shaw was chosen to serve on the Grand Jury at the Superior Court of Judicature Court
of Assize and General Goal Delivery to be holden at Salem on the first Tuesday of November next
and Capt. William Blackler & Ensn. Bartholomew Trask was chosen and appointed as the law directs
to serve on the Petit Jury at the above said Court.
