1778-05-07th At a Legal meeting of the Inhabitants of the Town of Beverly May the 7 1778. Col. Larkin Thorndike chosen Moderator. Voted. The Col. Henry Herrick Esq., Town Treasurer, with the assistance of Col. Larkin Thorndike be and hereby is empowered in the name in behalf of this town to borrow or hire on interest such sums of money as will be sufficient to procure or hire such a number of men as are now sent for from the militia of this Town and deliver the same to the several captains of the Company of militia in said Town for that purpose. They to be accountable for the same. Voted. That Capt. Joseph Rae, Capt. John Woodberry & Capt. Isaac Chapman the three captains of the militia of this Town with the assistance of their subaltern officers be a committee in the name and behalf of the Town to procure and hire such number of men as there are now called for out of the militia of this Town in the best manner they can giving preference to Town inhabitants.
