1778-04-13th At a Legal meeting of the Inhabitants of Town of Beverly April 13 1778. Col. Larcom Thorndike was chosen Moderator and it was put to vote to see if the Town will choose some person to join the Convention proposed by the Town of Newburyport to be held at Ipswich at th Mr. Treadwell’s Tavern on the 15 instant to take under consideration the Constitution and form of government proposed by the General Court of this State etc. and it passed a on the negative. Voted. That Benjamin Lovett Jr. be chosen constable for the ensuing year in the Ferry Ward by reason of Moses Brown refusing to serve. I, the Subscriber, do hereby covenant, promise and agreed to and with the Selectmen as Overseers of the Poor of the Town of Beverly to keep and maintain Mary Woodberry, a poor person under their care, the full term of one-year commencing on the 7th of April 1778 and for to find and provide for her good and sufficient meat, drink, washing and lodging, both in sickness and in health, doctors and nurses excepted, and to remove her to my house and at the expiration of said term to remove her to such place as the Selectmen shall appoint and as well clothed as I received her for and in consideration of all labor she shall do and the sum of twenty-seven pounds ten shillings to be one half paid at the end of the first six months and the rest at the year’s end.
