1778-02-04At a Meeting of the Inhabitants of the Town of Beverly regularly assembled on the fourth day of February 1778. Capt. James Lovett chosen Moderator. Voted the following instructions to their Representative. To Capt. Josiah Batchelder Jr.. Sir: We your constituents do hereby empower and instruct you as our representative to the Great and General Court of this State to act and do anything relative to the Articles of Confederation and Perpetual Union between the United States of America, as formed by the Congress and proposed, as you in your wisdom shall judge it to be most for the public good.
