At the Legal Town Meeting of the Inhabitants of the Town of Beverly on December 22 1778, being
on adjournment, Dea. John Conant Moderator, Capt. John Low was chosen one of the Committee
to Supply the Soldiers’ Families in the room of Samuel Conant resigned.
Voted. That the sum of four thousand pounds be raised and assessed on the ratable polls and estates
within said Town to defray the necessary charges arising within the same such as the charges
of the War and the supplying of the soldiers’ families etc.
