1776-05-24th At a Town Meeting legally warned and held on May the 24 1776. The Selectmen sat as regulators as the Law directs and it was put to the vote to see if the Town will choose more than one Representative to the Great and General Court and its passed in the negative. And then Capt. Josiah Batchelder Jr. was chosen by majority of votes to represent them in the Great and General Court or assembly appointed to be convened, held and kept for the government service at the meeting house in Watertown upon Wednesday the 29 day of May instant at nine o’clock in the morning and so from day to day during their session or sessions. Col. Henry Herrick was chosen Moderator for the remaining business of the meeting. Voted that the sum of three hundred sixty pounds be assessed and raised on the ratable polls and estates within the Town the year ensuing for the defraying of the necessary charges arising within the same.
