1776-10-07th At a meeting of Inhabitants of the Town of Beverly Oct. 7 1776. Col. Henry Herrick was chosen Moderator. It was put to vote to see if the Town will give their consent that the present House of Representatives of this State of the Massachusetts Bay in New England together with the Council if they consent in one body with the House and by equal voice should consult, agree on and enact such a Constitution and form of government for this State as the said House of Representatives and Council as aforesaid on the fullest and most mature deliberation shall judge will most conduce to the safety, peace and happiness of this State and all successions & generations and if they would direct that the same be made public for the inspection and perusal of the Inhabitants before the ratification thereof by the assembly and it passed in the negative. It was put to vote to see if the Town would have the Fort at Woodberry’s Point enclosed & it passed in the negative. Voted that the Selectmen provide barracks at the cost of this Town for the reception of the Seacoast men stationed in the Town at the Fort at Woodberry’s Point in the best manner they can. At the same meeting Mr. William Green was chosen as the law directs to serve on the Grand Jury at the Superior Court of Judicature Court of Assize and General Jail & Delivery to be holden at Salem on the first Tuesday of November next and Samuel Conant was chosen to serve on the Petit Jury at said court.
