1777-06-30th At a Legal Meeting of the Inhabitants of the Town of Beverly June 30 1777. Col. Henry Herrick was chosen Moderator of said meeting. Voted that Mr. Jonathan Dodge 2nd, Mr. William Elliott, Capt. Caleb Dodge, Capt. Jonathan Hart and Mr. Thomas Stephens should be a committee to prosecute all breaches of the acts of the Great and General Court for the preventing of monopoly and oppression etc. as the law directs. The votes for a County Register of Deeds were brought in and sealed up as the law directs. Mr. Joseph Pickett, Mr. Joseph Raymond, Mr. Josiah Stone, Mr. William Herrick Jr. was chosen to serve on the Petit Jury at the Court of the General Sessions of the Peace and Inferior Court of Common Pleas to be holden at Salem on the second Tuesday of July instant. Then the Moderator adjourned the meeting to Tuesday the eighth day of July next at 4 o’clock afternoon.
