1777-06-03rd At a legal meeting of the Inhabitants of the Town of Beverly June 3 1777. Col. Henry Herrick was chosen Moderator. th It was put to vote to see if the Town will reconsider the votes passed a Town Meeting on the 26 of May last relative to their giving their consent for the inoculating with the small pox etc.. And it passed in the affirmative. Voted that the Town will give their consent that those houses lately erected near the house of Nathaniel Wallis should be appropriated for the reception of said persons that shall break out with the small pox in the natural way and for the benefit of inoculation of one class, and no more, till further consent of the Town and that the whole of the above said affair shall be conducted and managed as the law of this State shall direct. Voted that Capt. William Bartlett, Capt. Nicolas Thorndike, Capt. Moses Brown, Capt. Nathan Leech and Mr. Henry Herrick Jr. be a committee to take care and transact the above said affair in the best manner they can for the safety of the Town and agreeable to the laws of the State. Mr. Jonathan Dodge 2nd was chosen to serve on the Grand Jury at the Superior Court etc. to be holden at Ipswich on the 3d. Tuesday instant and Capt. Nicolas Thorndike was chosen to serve on the Petit Jury at said Court.
