1777-11-17th At a Legal Meeting of the Inhabitants of the Town of Beverly Novbr. 17 1777. Capt. Josiah Batchelder Jr. was chosen Moderator of said meeting. Voted. That Mr. Josiah Obear, Mr. Samuel Conant & Dea. Richard Roundy be a committee to provide and supply the families of the noncommissioned officers and privates in this Town who have enlisted into the Continental Army with such necessaries as their circumstances may require agreeable to the Resolves of the Great and General Court. Voted. That said Committee continue in said office till the next March meeting and others chosen in their room and that they shall be reasonably paid for their services. Voted. That Col. Henry Herrick, Town Treasurer, be and is hereby empowered in behalf of the Town to hire three hundred pounds and deliver the same to the Committee appointed to provide for the families of soldiers as they shall stand in need therefor and said Committee to the be accountable for the same. Voted That the Town will reconsider their vote passed on the 10th of February last relative to their having the monies granted to be raised for the payment of the bounties of the soldiers etc. to be levied at is in said vote is prescribed on the ratably of the year 1776 & and also voted that the whole of said monies shall in like manner be assessed on the ratable’s of said Town that shall arise or maybe within the same agreeable to the tax act for the year 1777. Voted. That Andrew Cleaves be chosen to serve as Constable in the room of Richard Obear Jr. refusing to serve.
