1775-08-25th At a legal meeting of the Inhabitants of the Town of Beverly August 25 1775. Capt. Josiah Batchelder Jr. was chosen Moderator. Voted to choose a Committee of Correspondence and Inspection for this Town and that said Committee should consist of five persons. Voted that Mr. Joseph Wood, Capt. Nathan Leech, Capt. Caleb Dodge, Lieut. Joseph Rae & Capt. Livermore Whittridge be the above said Committee. Voted that the Town will be at the charge of providing of tents or barracks or other housing for the reception of the soldiers that are stationed to guard on the sea coast of within this Town and so forth. Voted that the Committee of Correspondence of this Town be and are hereby empowered in behalf of said Town to provide said tents, barracks or housing for said soldiers in such manner as they in their wisdom shall think best. A letter from the Committee of Safety of the Town of Salem was communicated to the Town recommending to the Town to procure two pieces of cannon to be mounted at Woodberry’s Point etc. Voted that the Consideration of the same be referred to the next Town Meeting by reason that they have no ammunition to use said cannon with provided we stood in need thereof.
