Essex, ss: To one of the Constables of the town of Beverly. Greeting.
You are hereby required in the name of said Commonwealth, to notify and warn in the usual
manner the qualified voters of said Town, to meet at the Town Hall and Monday the first day
December next, at Two O’clock afternoon, for the following purposes. Viz.:-
1st. To decide the manner of choosing a Moderator, and to choose the same.
2d. To see if the town will establish a High School, and raise money for its support.
3d. To see if the town will raise money by loan or otherwise for the Erection of a building for a High
School.
4th. To see if the Town will grant the use of the Town Hall for that purpose: - per petition of F. W.
Choate and others.
Hereof fail not but make due return of this warrant with your doings thereon before said time.

Beverly Nov. 21,1856. In pursuance of the foregoing warrant I have notified the persons therein
named as therein directed, by posting notices, according to the Town Regulations at or near each of
the Meeting Houses in the town.

At a legal meeting of the qualified voters of the town of Beverly, held at the Town Hall on Monday
the first day of December, A. D.1856, at Two o’clock P.M.. pursuant to the warrant recorded on the
next preceding page.
Voted. To choose Moderator by hand vote, and William H. Lovett, was thus chosen.
The next article of the warrant was then taken up, and after considerable discussion, a motion to defer
the whole subject to a committee to consider and report upon at the next Annual Meeting was
rejected. 133 to 118.
Voted. That the whole subject be indefinitely postponed.
Voted. That the meeting be dissolved, and it was so declared by the Moderator.
