1857-11-12Commonwealth of Massachusetts Essex, ss. To one of the Constables of the town of Beverly. Greeting. You are hereby required in the name of said Commonwealth to notify and warn in the usual manner the qualified voters of said Town, to meet at the Town Hall on Thursday the twelfth day of November current at Two o’clock afternoon for the following purposes. Viz.:- 1st. To decide the manner of choosing a Moderator and to choose the same. 2d. To see if the town will accept the Jury List as revised by the Selectmen. 3d. To see what action the town will take in relation to an Order of Notice from the County Commissioners upon the petitioner Wyatt C. Boyden for abatement of taxes. 4th. To see if the town will reconsider a vote passed at a meeting held April 18,1857 whereby the town adopted the Act of 1839 in regard to the Fire Department. - per petition of Nathan H. Webb and others. Hereof fail not but make due return of this warrant with your doings thereon before said time. Attest.James Hill, Town Clerk At a legal meeting of the qualified voters of the town of Beverly (held in pursuance to the warrant recorded on the next preceding page) at the Town Hall on Thursday the Twelfth day of November in the year 1857, at Two o’clock afternoon, it was Voted. That a Moderator be chosen by hand vote, and Haskell D. Whitney was thus chosen Moderator. Voted. That the Jury List as revised by the Selectman be accepted (this List is recorded on page 559 of this book.) Upon the 3d Article of the warrant, Voted. That the Assessors be requested to make Dr. Boyden’s Tax in accordance with his estimate of property on May 1,1857, to be given under oath. Upon the 4th. Article, the petition of N. H. Webb & others. Voted. That the subject of this article be indefinitely postponed. Voted. That this meeting be dissolved, and it was so declared by the Moderator. A true record. Attest. James Hill, Town Clerk.
