1857-11-03 ElectionCommonwealth of Massachusetts Essex, ss: To one of the Constables of the town of Beverly. Greeting. You are hereby required in the name of said Commonwealth to notify and warn in the usual manner the qualified voters of said Town to meet at the Town Hall on Tuesday the Third day of November next at Nine o’clock before noon for the following purposes. Viz.:- To give in their ballots for a Governor, Lieutenant Governor, Secretary, Treasurer and Receiver General, Auditor of Accounts, and Attorney General of this Commonwealth. To give in their ballots for a County Commissioner and Register of Probate for the County of Essex; a Councillor for Councillor District Number Two; one Senator for the Fifth Senatorial District of the County of Essex; and Two Representatives for the Third Representative District of the County of Essex. The votes for all the above named officers will be received on one piece of paper, and the polls will be closed at four o’clock unless otherwise determined by the meeting. Hereof fail not, but make due return of this warrant with your doings thereon before said time. The said ballots were sorted, counted and recorded, and declaration thereof made as by the Constitution is directed and were for the following persons, viz.: - Stephen H. Phillips of Salem four hundred twenty seven votes John H. Clifford of New Bedford two hundred seven votes Ezra Wilkinson of Dedham forty eight votes Wm. H. James Hill, Town Clerk Commonwealth of Massachusetts At a legal meeting of the Inhabitants of the town of Beverly, in the County of Essex qualified as by law required to vote for Civil Officers holden on the Tuesday next after the first Monday in November being the third day of said month in the year One Thousand Eight Hundred Fifty Seven, for the purpose of giving in their votes for a Register of Probate for said County of Essex, - for the balance of the unexpired term of three years from the first Wednesday in January, One Thousand Eight Hundred and Fifty Seven: - the whole number of ballots given and was, Six Hundred Eighty. The said ballots were sorted, counted and recorded, and declaration thereof made as by law directed; and were for the following persons, viz.:- Charles H. James Hill, Town Clerk Commonwealth of Massachusetts At a meeting of the Inhabitants of the town of Beverly, in the County of Essex, held agreeably to law, for the choice of a County Commissioner, on the Tuesday next after the first Monday in November in the year of our Lord One Thousand Eight Hundred Fifty Seven, the qualified voters of said Town brought in their written votes for a County Commissioner, and the Selectmen of said town in open town meeting sorted and counted the votes and made public declaration of the names of all the persons voted for, and the number of votes for each, and the following is the result of said balloting, Whole number of ballots, six hundred seventy nine.
