1843-06-05Essex ss. Beverly. To one of the Constables of said Town. Greeting. You are hereby required in the name of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts to notify and warn, in the usual manner, the qualified voters of said Town to meet at the Town Hall, on Monday the fifth day of June next at Eight o’clock before noon for the following purposes, viz.: 1st. To decide the manner of choosing a Moderator, & to choose the same. 2nd. To see if the Town will discontinue that portion of the Town Way called Briscoe Street which was laid out and accepted by the Town May 11,1801, when the same was widened & straightened, or any portion thereof, provided, a suitable consideration is paid the Town therefore, agreeably to the petition of William Larabee & others - and act and do anything thereon the town think expedient. You are also required hereby further, by said authority and in the usual manner to notify said voters to meet at said Hall on Monday the fifth day of June aforesaid at nine o’clock in said forenoon to give in their ballots for a Representative from District No. Two, in the Congress of the United States. The poll will open at nine o’clock A.M. and close at five o’clock P.M. Hereof fail not but make due return of this warrant with your doings thereon before said time. Commonwealth of Massachusetts At a legal meeting of the Inhabitants of the Town of Beverly, in the County of Essex and Commonwealth of Massachusetts, qualified by the Constitution to vote for Representatives in the General Court, holden on the fifth day of June, being the first Monday of said month, in the year one thousand eight hundred and forty-three, for the purpose of giving in their votes for a Representative of said Commonwealth, in the Congress of the United States, for District Number Two. The whole number of persons who gave in their votes was ascertained as is directed in the Revised Statutes (Chap. 4, Sec. 13) by counting the number of separate ballots given in, and the whole number of ballots was Four hundred and ninety two And the whole number of votes given in were sorted, counted, recorded, and declaration thereof made, as bylaw is directed - and were for the following persons: Daniel P. At a legal meeting of the qualified voters of the town of Beverly, held on Monday June fifth. On the 1st. article in the warrant, Voted, to choose a Moderator, by hand vote. William H. Lovett, was then chosen. On the 2d Article, on motion of Mr. Rantoul, it was Voted, that the petition of William Larabee and others be referred to a Comttee. consisting of Five Individuals, to report to the Town at some future meeting. Voted, that the following gentlemen constitute the committee viz.: Robt. Rantoul. Asa Woodberry. Edw. Pousland. John Truck 2d.
