1845-01-25Essex, ss. To one of the Constables of the town of Beverly-Greeting.
You are
hereby required in the name of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts to notify and warn the qualified

voters of said Town to meet at the Town Hall on Saturday the 25 day of January instant at one
o’clock afternoon for the following purposes,
1st. To decide the manner of choosing a Moderator and choose the same.
2d. To adopt such measures as they may deem expedient in relation to the Order of Notice from the
General Court of this Commonwealth upon the petition of David Pingree and others for a new
railroad commencing at or near the courthouse in Salem, through South Danvers, the westerly part
of Lynn, Saugus, Chelsea and Malden to unite with the Boston and Maine Railroad near the boundary
between Malden and Medford with a branch from South Danvers to Danvers Plains.
3d. To adopt such measures as they deem expedient in relation to the Order of Notice from the said
General Court upon the petition of D. A. Neal for Eastern Railroad Company, for authority to
construct Branch Railroad from Gloucester to Beverly and from Danvers to Salem -
Hereof fail not but make due return of this warrant with your doings thereon before said time.

Beverly, January 25 A.D. 1845. Pursuant to the foregoing warrant I have notified the persons
therein named as therein directed - Ezra O. Woodberry, Constable of Beverly.
At a legal meeting of the qualified voters of the town of Beverly held pursuant to the

foregoing warrant on Saturday, January 25 1845, at One o’clock afternoon.
Voted. To choose Moderator by hand vote, and chose Wm. H. Lovett Moderator.
On the 2d Article, as the petition did not refer to Beverly.
Voted. That said Article be indefinitely postponed.
On the 3d Article, relating to Branch Rail to Gloucester.
Voted. That the same be referred to the Representatives of this town in the General Court to act for
this town in said case according to their best judgment.
Voted. This meeting be dissolved, which was accordingly so declared.
