1873-05-12Commonwealth of Massachusetts Essex, ss.To one of the Constables of the town of Beverly-Greeting. You are hereby required in the name of said Commonwealth, to notify and warn the qualified voters of said Town to meet at the Town Hall on Monday the twelfth day of May instant, at half past seven o’clock P.M.. for the following purposes, viz.:- 1st. To decide the manner of choosing a Moderator, and to choose the same. 2d. To see if the town will discontinue so much of the town way known as Briscoe Street as extends from the Estate of William H. Perry to the Estate of Charles L. Moulton. 3d. To take action upon the suit of Samuel L. King against the town for damages. 4th. To take such action as may be deemed expedient upon the offer of Mrs. Hannah L. Rantoul, to give the town for High School and similar educational purposes, the parcel of land known as the Stephens Hill Lot. 5th To see if the town will direct that the water pipes be extended through private lands or by the public ways, so is to make connections between Essex Street and some of the streets of Beverly Farms. Hereof fail not, but make due return of this warrant with your doings thereon before said time. Pursuant to the foregoing warrant I have notified the persons therein named, as therein directed, by posting notifications stating the time, place and object of the meeting, at the several places in town required by the Town Regulations. At a meeting of the qualified voters, of the town of Beverly, held in pursuance of the warrant recorded on the next preceding page, at the Town Hall in said Town, on Monday the Twelfth day of May, in the year Eighteen hundred and seventy-three, at half past Seven o’clock afternoon, it was Voted, that a Moderator be chosen by hand vote. Voted, (by hand vote) that Freeborn W. Cressy be Moderator. Upon Article 2.Discontinuance of a portion of Briscoe Street. Voted, that so much of the town way known as Briscoe Street as extends from the Estate of William H. Perry to the Estate of Charles L. Moulton be discontinued. Upon Article 3.Suit of Samuel L. King. Voted, the Selectmen be instructed to employ counsel to defend the interest of the town, in the suit of Samuel L. King against the town for damages. Upon Article 4. Mrs. Rantoul’s offer of land for High School House. On motion of Hon. John I. Baker. Voted, that the Town accept with grateful thanks the generous offer of Mrs. Hannah L. Rantoul of the “Stephens Hill Lot,” for a High School building, and Playgrounds connected therewith and that the Selectmen accept the deed thereof devoting the same to that purpose, and that the Town Clerk furnish Mrs. Rantoul with a copy of this vote, as a pledge that the lot shall be devoted to the purposes indicated, and as a slight token of our appreciation of her beneficence. Upon Article 5.Extension of Water pipes from Essex to Hale Sts. A motion “that the Selectmen cause Water pipes to be extended through such public ways and private lands in town, as they may deem expedient to make connections between the pipes on Essex and Hull Streets, and the pipes in such of the streets of Beverly Farms, as will secure suitable connections and an efficient water supply, securing such rights of way through private lands as may be necessary.”- was put to the meeting and lost.
