1871-05-02Commonwealth of Massachusetts Essex, ss.To one of the Constables of the town of Beverly.- Greeting. You are hereby required in the name of said Commonwealth, to notify and warn the qualified voters of said town (in the usual manner) to meet at the Town Hall upon Tuesday, the second day of May next at half past seven o’clock afternoon for the following purposes.-viz.. 1st. To decide the manner of choosing a Moderator, and to choose the same. 2d. To see if the Town will vote that no person shall be allowed to sell ale, porter, strong beer or lager beer in this town. 3d. To see if the Town will change the name of Bald Hill School. 4th. To see if the Town will authorize a release to be made to Rev. C. W. Flanders and Rev. J. Tracy of the two lots of land, extending through from Thorndike Street to Abbott Street, in the respective proportions deeded to them, by Benjamin Raymond or those claiming under him. The said Lots being No. 27 and No. 28 on the plan of the late Thorndike estate, as conveyed by the Town to said Raymond, who has lost the deeds thereof, and no record of which has been found. 5th. To see if the Town will authorize the purchase of a new Hose Carriage to be located at No. 2 Engine house. Hereof fail not, but make due return of this warrant, with your doings thereon before said time. A true copy of the original warrant and return thereon.Attest.James Hill, Town Clerk At a meeting of the qualified voters of the town of Beverly, held (and pursuance of the warrant recorded on the next preceding page) at the Town Hall in said town on Tuesday the Second Day of May in the year one thousand eight hundred seventy-one, at half past seven o’clock, afternoon. Voted, That a Moderator be chosen by hand vote. Voted, That Freeborn W. Cressy be Moderator. Upon Article 2. Voted, That no person shall be allowed to sell a Ale, Porter, Strong Beer or Lager Beer in this town. Upon Article 3. Voted, That the name of Bald Hill School be changed to Centerville School. Upon Article 4. Voted, That the Town hereby releases to Rev. Charles W. Flanders and Rev. Joseph Tracy, all the right, title and interest of the Town, if any it has, in and to Lots No. twenty-seven (27) and twenty- eight (28) on the Plan of the Thorndike Estate (lot No. 27 now held by said Tracy, and lot No. 28 now held by said Flanders,) and the Town Treasurer is hereby authorized to execute and deliver in the name and behalf of the Inhabitants of the Town of Beverly quitclaim deeds of the said lots as now held and improved by them. Upon Article 5. Voted, the Engineers of the Fire Department be hereby authorized to purchase a new Hose Carriage to be located in Engine House No. 2. Voted, That this meeting be dissolved.
