1862-07-14 Commonwealth of Massachusetts Essex, ss. To the Constables of the town of Beverly. Greeting. You are hereby required, in the name of said Commonwealth, to notify and warn the qualified voters of said town (by leaving at each dwelling house in the town, a written or printed notice of the time, place and objects of the meeting, at least one hour before the time appointed for the meeting) to meet at the Town Hall, on Monday the 14th day of July current, at 4 o'clock P.M. for the following purposes: days;- 1st. To decide the manner of choosing a Moderator, and to choose the same. 2d. To take such measures, to furnish the town's proportion of troops called for by General Order No. 26, as may be deemed necessary; and to that end to raise money, authorize the use of the credit of the town, or adopt any other measures that may be deemed expedient. Hereof fail not, but make due return of this warrant with your doings thereon, one hour at least before the time appointed for said meeting. Beverly, July 12,1862. Pursuant to the foregoing warrant, I hereby notify and warn the qualified voters of said town to meet at the time, place, and for the purposes set forth in said warrant. Constable of Beverly. Essex, ss. Beverly, July 14th A.D. 1862 - 2:00 PM. Pursuant to the foregoing warrant, we have notified the persons therein named, as therein directed, by leaving a copy of said warrant, with a copy of the notice thereto annexed, (to which we affixed our signatures) at each dwelling house in the town. And we have performed said service in the several School Districts in the town as follows;- viz:- In Bass River & Dodge's Row School Districts by me John H. Chipman. In Bald Hill & Cove School Districts by me William P. Moses. In East Farms & West Farms School Districts by me George T. Larcom Constables In Washington School Districts by me Israel Trask 5th of In Grammar School Districts by me John J. Dennis Beverly In South School Districts by me John R. Tibbetts A true copy of the original warrant notice and return thereon. Attest. James Hill, Town Clerk. At a legal meeting of the qualified voters of the town of Beverly, (held in pursuance of the warrant recorded on the next preceding page) at the Town Hall on Monday the 14th day of July A.D. 1862, at 4 o'clock afternoon. The meeting was called to order by the Clerk, at the time appointed, who read the warrant therefor.- and it was- Voted. that a Moderator be chosen by hand vote, & Hon. John I. Baker was thus chosen. Voted. that the Selectmen of this town, be authorized to allow and pay, in addition to the customer allowance for the benefit of the families of volunteers, the sum of one hundred dollars to each person, who, as a part of the quota of this Commonwealth, shall within twenty days be duly enlisted in this town, into the Volunteer Service of the United States; payable when duly mustered into service. Voted, that the Selectmen are hereby authorized to use the credit of the town fully to carry the foregoing vote into effect, and that they be instructed to hire the money on the best terms practicable. Voted that a Committee of 15 persons, to wit one from each School District and 5 chosen a large, be chosen to cooperate with and assist Selectmen in the matter of enlistment. Voted that William Endicott, Charles A. Kilham, Joseph E. Ober, Daniel Foster, Augustus N. Clark, Brackett T. Munsey, Isaac Standley, Edwin Foster, Joseph Conant, John Knowlton, Josiah A. Haskell, Benjn. E. Cole, John T. Ober, & Winthrop Porter, be that Committee. Voted that the Moderator be added to the Committee. Voted that this meeting be dissolved & it was so declared by the Moderator. A true record, Attest. James Hill, Town Clerk
