1862-02-12 Commonwealth of Massachusetts Essex, ss. To one of the Constables of the town of Beverly. Greeting. You are hereby required in the name of said Commonwealth to notify and warn in the usual manner the qualified voters of said town, to meet at the Town Hall on Wednesday the 12th day of February current, at 2 o'clock afternoon for the following purposes, viz.: 1st. To decide the manner of choosing a Moderator, and then to choose the same. 2d. To see what action the town will take in regard to the petition of Daniel Foster and others now pending before a Committee of the Legislature for the protection of Beverly Harbor, Hereof fail not, but make due return of this warrant, with your doings thereon before said time. Foster Commonwealth of Massachusetts, Essex, ss: Beverly February 4th 1862. Pursuant to the within warrant I have notified the inhabitants of the town of Beverly as therein directed, to meet at the time and place and for the purposes thcrein mentioned by posting copies of this warrant, at each of the meeting houses in the said town and at the Town Hall seven days before the time set for said Meeting. At a legal meeting of the qualified voters of the town of Beverly held in pursuance of the foregoing warrant at the Town Hall on Wednesday the 12th day of February A.D. 1862 at 2 o'clock P.M .-it was. Voted, that a Moderator be chosen by hand vote, and Hon. John Safford was thus chosen Moderator. Voted. that Daniel Foster, John Pickett, and Richard J. Preston, be a Committee to appear before the Committee of the Legislature in behalf of the town to take such action as they think expedient, in regard to a petition of Daniel Foster and others for the protection of Beverly Harbor and that said committee are authorized to employ counsel if they deem it necessary.
