Essex, ss. Beverly.
To one of the Constables of the town of Beverly. Greeting.
You are hereby required in the name of said Commonwealth to notify and warn in the usual
manner the qualified voters of said town to meet at the Town Hall on Wednesday, the15th day of
May instant at 2 o'clock in the afternoon, for the following purposes; viz.-
1st. To decide the manner of choosing a Moderator, and to choose the same.
2d. To see what measures, if any, the Town will adopt, to furnish the members of the Company of
soldiers from this town, now in the service of the United States, with uniforms and other necessary
clothing and such other articles as they may stand in need of, and to take such action in regard thereto
as they may deem expedient.
Hereof fail not, but make due return of this warrant, with your doings thereon before said time.
Given under our hands and seal this 7th day of May A. D. 1861.

Essex, ss. Beverly May 8th, 1861. Pursuant to the foregoing warrant, I have notified the persons
therein named, as therein directed, by posting notices thereof, at or near each of the public meeting
houses in the Town according to the Town regulations.

At a legal meeting of the qualified voters of the town of Beverly, held in pursuance of the warrant
recorded on the next preceding page, at the Town Hall on Wednesday May 15th A. D. 1861, at 2
o'clock afternoon, - it was -
Voted the Moderator be chosen by hand vote, and Hon. John Safford, was thus chosen Moderator.
Upon the 2d article of the warrant.
Voted that the whole subject of this article, be referred to the Selectmen, and that they be, and are
hereby authorized to take such action thereon from time to time as they may judge necessary, and
to use the credit of the town to such an extent as maybe necessary, to carry their action thereon into
effect.
Hon. John I. Baker, then offered the following Resolutions which were unanimously adopted.
Resolved, that we tender to the officers and soldiers of our Beverly Light Infantry, Company E. and
all other soldiers from Beverly, now absent in the service of the country, our warmest meed of praise
for their noble and manly self sacrifice, in so readily responding to their nation's call, and for the
skill, energy, perseverance, courage and ability, which they, in common with their associates of the
Eighth Massachusetts Regiment, so faithfully evinced in their triumphal progress and march to the
nation's Capital.
Resolved. That we tender to the far famed Seventh Regiment of New York, our heartfelt thanks for
the many kindnesses to our Eighth Mass. Regiment, and, especially for their liberality towards our
wounded fellow citizen, Lieut. Moses S. Herrick.
Resolved. That our warmest sympathies be tendered to Lieut. Herrick in his misfortunes, and that
we pledge ourselves to him, and to all his associates in our Beverly Company, and our other Beverly
soldiers, and to their respective families, to render unto their necessities, all the material aid and
comfort, that we can legitimately bestow.
Voted. That this meeting be dissolved, it was so declared by the Moderator.
