1861-09-28 Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Essex, ss. To one of the Constables of the town of Beverly. C-reefing. You are hereby required in the name of said Commonwealth to notify and warn in the usual manner, the qualified voters of said town to meet at the Town Hall on Saturday the 28th day of September, current, at Two o'clock in the afternoon for the following purposes, viz. 1st. To decide the manner of choosing a Moderator, and to choose the same. 2d. To see what action, if any, the Town will take in regard to carrying out the provisions of the Act of the last Legislature, entitled "An Act in aid of the families of volunteers and for other purposes," and to act and do anything respecting the same, as they may think proper. Hereof fail not but make due return of this warrant, with your doings thereon before said time. Given under our hands and seal this 20th day of September A.D. 1861. Pursuant to the foregoing warrant I have this day notified the within named persons, as within directed, by posting notifications of said Meeting, at or near each of the public meeting houses in town according to the Town Regulations. At a legal meeting of the qualified voters of thc Town of Beverly, held, in pursuance of the warrant recorded on the next preceding page, at the Town Hall on Saturday the 28th day of September A.D. 1861 at Two o'clock in the afternoon. Voted, the Moderator be chosen by hand vote, and John Meacom was thus chosen Moderator. Voted. that the sum of Three Thousand dollars, be raised, and appropriated under the direction of the Selectmen, for the purposes set forth in the act passed at a special session of the Legislature, approved May 23th A.D. 1861 entitled "An Act in aid of the families of Volunteers and for other purposes." And that the Town Treasurer is hereby authorized to hire the same from time to time as may be necessary to meet the orders drawn by the Selectmen for said purposes. Voted, that this meeting be dissolved, and it was so declared by the Moderator. A true record, Attest. James Hill, Town Clerk
