Essex, ss. To either of the Constables of the town of Beverly, in said county, Greeting:
You are hereby required in the name of said commonwealth to notify and warn in the manner
prescribed by the regulations of the town, the qualified voters of said town to meet at the Town Hall
in said Beverly, on Tuesday the ninth day of June next, at thirty minutes past seven o'clock
afternoon, for the following purposes, viz.;
1st. To choose a Moderator.
2d. To see if the town will vote to take all the lands owned by George H. Southwick and
others, situated on the corner of Abbott and Cabot Streets in said Beverly, which is bounded by
Cabot Street, by Abbott Street, by the cemetery lot, and by land of said Beverly on which the Town
Hall stands, for the enlargement of the Town Hall lot, according to the provisions of chapter twenty-
seven of the Public Statutes of Massachusetts.
3d. To see if the town will accept the provisions of chapter three hundred eighty-two of the
Acts of the Legislature of Massachusetts for the year 1871; and the provisions of chapter fifty-one
of the Public Statutes of Massachusetts.
Each of the foregoing having been petitioned for by Woodbury Brothers and others, as per
petition now on file in the office of the Town Clerk
Hereof fail not, but make due return of this warrant with your doings thereon before the time
of holdings said meeting.
Given under our hands and seal this thirtieth day of May in the year one thousand eight

Pursuant to the foregoing warrant I have notified the persons therein named
as therein directed, by posting notifications stating the time, place and objects of said meeting at each
of the several places in town required by the Town Regulations.

At a legal meeting of the qualified voters of the town of Beverly held, in pursuance of the
warrant recorded on the next proceeding page, at the Town Hall in said town, on Tuesday the ninth
day of June in the year one thousand eight hundred and ninety-one, at thirty minutes past seven
o 'clock afternoon, the Meeting having been called to order at the time appointed, by the Town Clerk
who read the warrant therefore, it was
Voted that the Moderator be chosen by open nomination and hand vote.
It was
Voted that Freeborn W. Cressy be Moderator.
Upon Article 2. Town Hall Lot.
A motion by Robert Robertson that the article be laid on the table was lost.
A motion by George F. Standley, that action upon this article be indefinitely
postponed, was withdrawn by consent of the Meeting.
A motion by Perry Collier, as amended by Dennis W. Quill, "that the
following described parcel of land situated in said Beverly, the same not exceeding one acre in extent
and not being appropriated to public uses be and is hereby taken by the town for the purpose of
enlarging the Town Hall lot, to wit: - a certain lot of land on the corner of Abbott and Cabot Streets
in said Beverly, which is bounded by Cabot Street, by Abbott Street, by the cemetery lot, and by land
of said Beverly on which the Town Hall stands. And it is further voted, that the Selectmen sign in
behalf of the town, and file in the Registry of Deeds, a description of the land so taken in accordance
with Chapter 27 Section 41, Public Statutes of Massachusetts, that the sum of fifteen thousand
dollars be appropriated for the purpose of settling any claim for damages occasioned by the taking
of the land for the enlargement of the Town Hall lot, and that said sum be raised by taxation and be
included in the assessment of taxes for the current year, and that the Town treasurer be authorized
with the approval of the Selectmen to hire said sum in anticipation of the taxes of the current year,
and the debt incurred under the authority of this vote is hereby made payable from said taxes." was
lost.
