1890-09-26 Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Essex, ss. To either of the Constables of the town of Beverly, in said County, Greeting: You are hereby required in the name of said Commonwealth to notify and warn in the manner prescribed by the regulations of the town, the qualified voters of said town to meet at the Town Hall in said Beverly on Friday the twenty-sixth day of September current at thirty minutes past seven o'clock afternoon, for the following purposes, viz.; 1st. To choose a Moderator. 2d. To see if the town will sell such part of a lot of land on Thorndike Street belonging to the town, recently purchased of Elisha C. Cooper, as may not be needed for the Armory lot, and to authorize such part of the proceeds of such sale as may be necessary to be used in the erection of the Armory building. Hereof fail not, but make due return of this warrant with your doings thereon before the time of holding said meeting. Pursuant to the foregoing warrant I have notified the persons therein named as therein directed, by posting notifications stating the time, place and objects of said meeting at each of the several places in town required by the Town Regulations. At a legal meeting of the qualified voters of the town of Beverly held in pursuance of the warrant recorded above, at the Town Hall in said town on Friday the twenty-six day of September in the year one thousand eight hundred and ninety at thirty minutes past seven o'clock afternoon, the Meeting having been called to order at the time appointed by the Clerk who read the warrant therefore, It was Voted that the Moderator be chosen by open nomination and hand vote. Voted that Freeborn W. Cressy be Moderator. Upon Article 2. Sale of part of Armory lot. A motion by John I. Baker, "That further consideration by the town of this article and of the subjects connected therewith be postponed until the next annual town meeting, and that, in the meanwhile, the committee having in charge the providing and building of a new Armory building be requested not to make any contracts till after that time, but to carefully review the subject matter entrusted to them and then to report to the town the results of their deliberations both as to locating and providing a suitable Armory as already voted by the town. And that the Selectmen be requested to insert an Article in the warrant for the said next annual town meeting which will enable the town to act fully upon the report of said committee and upon any suggestions made by them." was lost. A motion by Francis D. Porter, "That the Selectmen be authorized to sell such part of a lot of land on Thorndike Street belonging to the town, recently purchased of Elisha C. Cooper, as may not be needed for the armory lot, and apply such part of the proceeds as may be necessary for the erection of the Armory building" was lost.
