Essex, ss. To either of the Constables of the town of Beverly, in said County, Greeting:
You are hereby directed to notify and warn, in the manner prescribed by the regulations of
the town, the qualified voters of said town to meet at the Town Hall in said Beverly on Tuesday the
thirteenth day of September current, at thirty minutes past seven o'clock afternoon, for the following
purposes, viz.;
1st. To choose a Moderator.
2d. To see what action the town will take with reference to any renewed attempt that may
be made for the division of our town.
Hereof fail not but make due return of this warrant, with your doings thereon, before the time
of holding said meeting.
Given under our hands and the seal this third day of September in the year one thousand eight
hundred and eighty-seven.

Pursuant to the foregoing warrant I have notified the persons therein named as therein
directed, by posting notifications stating the time, place and objects of said meeting at each of the
several places in town required by the Town Regulations.

At a legal meeting of the qualified voters of the town of Beverly held, in pursuance of the
warrant recorded on the preceding page, at the Town Hall in said town, on Tuesday the thirteenth
day of September in the year one thousand eight hundred and eighty-seven, at thirty minutes past
seven o'clock afternoon,
The meeting having been called to order at the time appointed, by the Clerk
who read the warrant therefore, it was Voted that the Moderator be chosen by hand vote. It was
Voted that Freeborn W. Cressy B. Moderator.
Upon Article 2. Town Division.
Voted that a committee of five be appointed by the Moderator to confer together and report
a committee of twenty persons to oppose all attempts that may be made for the division of the town.
The Moderator appointed Andrew E. Story, Francis J. Crowell, Thomas A. Morgan,
Rufus H. Woodbury, and Patrick Guinivan as this committee, and they presented the names of the
following persons, viz.;

It was
Voted that this report be accepted. It was
Voted that all the persons whose names were so presented be a committee with full authority
to oppose all attempts that may be made for the division of the town.
Upon motion of John T. Ober it was
Voted that this committee have authority to fill any vacancies that may occur in their number.
Upon motion of the Andrew E. Story it was
Voted that this committee be authorized to increase the number of its members at its
discretion.
Upon motion of William C. Boyden it was
Voted that a committee of five be appointed by the Moderator to present resolutions to this
meeting opposed to any division of our town.
The Moderator appointed William C. Boyden, Peter D. Clark, Robert G.
Bennett, Levi K. Goodhue, William R. Driver, as this committee.
The committee on resolutions presented the following,
"Whereas it is evident that a third attempt to divide the town of Beverly will
be made at the next session of the Legislature
Resolved that the citizens of Beverly protest against any division of its
territory - and that the committee appointed by this meeting is instructed to use all proper means to
oppose before the Legislature any proposition looking to such division.

Voted that this report be accepted and adopted as the sentiment of this meeting.
