1888-05-22 Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Essex, ss. To either of the Constables of the town of Beverly, and said County, Greeting: You are hereby directed to notify and warn, in the manner prescribed by the regulations of the town, the qualified voters of said town to meet at the Town Hall in said Beverly on Tuesday the twenty-second day of May current, at thirty minutes past seven o'clock afternoon, the following purposes, viz.; 1st. To choose aModerator. 2d. To see if the town will establish fire alarm boxes at the following places, viz.; one near the residence of William Young on Hart Street, one near the residence of George Larcom on Hale Street, one at the junction of Hale Street and Hart Street; also to see if the town will place a gong and striker on the tower of the fire station at Beverly Farms-as per petition of A. O. Marshall and others. 3rd. To see if the town will place a fire alarm box near the junction of Hart Street and Preston Place; to see if the town will employ a night watch man on Hart Street between Greenwood Avenue and the boundary line between Beverly and Wenham; to see if the town will establish a drinking fountain near the entrance to Preston Place;- as per petition of Ezra K. Preston and others. 4th. To see if the town will instead of selling the old Washington Hose House, cause the same to be removed to the corner of Hale and Brackenbury streets; and will procure land therefor and furnish hose and hose carriage and requisite appliances to make the same useful,-as per petition of George E. Johnson and others. 5th. To see what action the town will take in relation to fixing the powers and duties of the Water Board. Hereof fail not, but make due return of this warrant, with your doings thereon, before the time of holding said meeting. Pursuant to the foregoing warrant I notified the persons therein named as therein directed by posting notifications stating the time, place, and objects of said meeting at each of the several places and town required by the Town Regulations. At a illegal meeting of the qualified voters of the town of Beverly held, in pursuance of the warrant recorded on the next preceding page, at the Town Hall in said town on Tuesday the 22nd day of May in the year 1888 at thirty minutes past seven o'clock afternoon, A meeting having been called to order at the time appointed, by the clerk who read the warrant therefor it was Voted that the Moderator be chosen by hand vote. It was Voted that Freeborn W. Cressy be Moderator. Upon Article 2. Fire Alarm System at Farms. Voted that the prayer of the petitioners be granted. Upon Article 3. Fire Alarm Box, etc. Upon motion of Wm. A. Friend it was Voted that all action relating to the employment of a night watch men be indefinitely postponed. Upon motion of Wm. A. Friend it was Voted that all action relating to a fire alarm box be indefinitely the postponed. Upon motion of Francis Norwood it was Voted that a drinking fountain be established near the entrance to Preston Place. Upon Article 4. Washington Hose House. The building referred to having been sold at auction on Saturday the nineteenth day of May current according to the vote of the thirtieth day of April last past no action was taken upon this Article. Upon Article 5. Water Board. Upon motion of Andrew E. Story it was Voted that the Water Board, in addition to the authority already voted to it, is hereby granted the same authority as that granted to the Selectmen under the vote of the town of Sept. 11,1876, for the management and control of the water works and of all matters relating thereto, and said Board, within the amounts appropriated by the town, may make such repairs, improvements in extension of said works as in their judgment may be deemed desirable. And said Board be authorized to enforce any contracts now existing, pertaining to said works. It was Voted that this meeting be dissolved. A true record. Attest. William H. Lovett, Town Clerk.
