1884-11-07Commonwealth of Massachusetts Essex, ss. To either of the Constables of the town of Beverly in said Cotmty, Greeting: You are hereby required in the name of said Commonwealth to notify and warn, in the manner prescribed by the regulations the town, the qualified voters of said town to meet at the Town Hall in said Beverly on Friday the seventh day of November next, at thirty minutes past seven o'clock afternoon, for the following purposes, viz.; 1st. To choose a Moderator 2d. To see if the town will appropriate such additional sums of money, not exceeding five thousand dollars as shall be necessary to build the Engine and Ladder House in accordance with the original plans prepared by the architect Mr. Ober and approved by the joint committee to whom this matter was referred by the town - as per petition of Francis Norwood and others. Hereof fail not but make due return of this warrant with your doings thereon before the time of holding said meeting. Pursuant to the foregoing warrant I have notified the persons therein named as therein directed, by posting notifications stating the time, place and objects of said meeting at each of the several places in town Required by the Town Regulations. Lovett, Town Clerk At the legal meeting of the qualified voters of the town of Beverly held in pursuance of the warrant recorded above, at the Town Hall in said town on Friday the seventh day of November in the year one thousand eight hundred and eighty-four, at thirty minutes past seven o 'clock afternoon, the Meeting having been called to order at the time appointed by the Clerk, who read the warrant therefor, It was Voted that the Moderator be chosen by hand vote. Andrew E. Story and Freeborn W. Cressy were severally chosen Moderator but both being absent it was Voted that John I. Baker be Moderator. Upon Article 2. Additional Appropriation for Engine Ho. Upon motion of Wm. A. Friend it was Voted that the prayer of the petitioners be granted It was Voted That Treasurer, with the approval of the Selectmen, be authorized to borrow an amount not exceeding five thousand dollars to pay the indebtedness incurred by the foregoing vote, and that said amount shall be assessed in the next annual assessment.
