1884-10-15Commonwealth of Massachusetts Essex, ss. To one of the Constables of the town of Beverly, Greeting: You are hereby required in the name of said Commonwealth to notify and warn in the usual manner, the qualified voters of said town to meet at the Town Hall in said town on Wednesday the fifteenth day of October current at half past seven o 'clock afternoon for the following purposes, viz. 1st. To choose a Moderator. 2d. To see if the town will appropriate any additional sum of money for the purpose of building and completing the building and hose tower, the foundations for which are now in, on the Bancroft lot; designed for the two steam fire engines and hook and ladder truck, with stable for horses, and accommodations for other apparatus pertaining thereto. Hereof fail not but make due return of this warrant with your doings thereon before said time. Pursuant to the foregoing warrant I have notify the persons therein named as therein directed, by posting notifications, stating the time, place, and objects of said meeting at each of the several places in town required by the Town Regulations. Lovett, Town Clerk At a legal meeting of the qualified voters of the town of Beverly held, in pursuance of the warrant recorded on the next preceding page, at the Town Hall, in said town, on Wednesday the fifteenth day of October in the year one thousand eight hundred and eighty four at thirty minutes past seven o'clock afternoon the meeting having been called to order at the time appointed, by the Clerk who read the warrant therefor, It was Voted that the Moderator be chosen by hand vote. Voted that Andrew E. Story be Moderator. Upon Article 2. Additional appropriation for Engine House. A motion by John I. Baker, "That in addition to the sum of twelve thousand dollars already appropriated, the additional sum of four thousand dollars be hereby appropriated for the building and completing of the building named in said article, and the Treasurer with the approval of the Selectmen is authorized to borrow said additional money, which amount shall be assessed in the next annual assessment," was lost. Sixty voting in favor of and seventy one against the motion. A motion by John H. Watson that five thousand dollars be raised for the above named purpose was lost as was also one by Daniel Foster for three thousand dollars, one by Robert R. Endicott for twenty five hundred dollars and one by John T. Ober for two thousand dollars. It was Voted that this meeting be dissolved. (8:06 P.M.) A true record. Attest. Wm. H. Lovett, Town Clerk
