1883-07-09Commonwealth of Massachusetts Essex, ss. To either of the Constables of the Town of Beverly, in said County, Greeting: You are hereby directed to notify and warn, in the manner prescribed by the regulations of the town, the qualified voters of said town to meet at the Town Hall in said Beverly on Monday the ninth day of July next at eight o'clock in the afternoon, for the following purposes, viz.; 1st To decide the manner of choosing a Moderator and to choose the same. 2d To see if the town will lay the water pipes through Bridge Street or otherwise devise some means by which residents and those contemplating to build in that portion of the town can be furnished with pure water - as per petition of Francis E. Porter and others. 3d To see if the town will lay the water pipes in the new town way at Beverly Farms, fonnerly known as Hull's Lane. Thereof fail not, but make due return of this warrant with your doings thereon, before the time of holding said meeting. Pursuant to the foregoing warrant, I have notified the persons therein named, as therein directed, by posting notifications stating the time, place, and objects of said meeting at each of the several places in town required by the Town Regulations. At a legal meeting of the qualified voters of the town of Beverly, held in pursuance of the warrant recorded above, at the Town Hall in said town on Monday the ninth day of July in the year One thousand eight hundred and eighty three at eight o 'clock P.M., the Meeting having been called to order at the time appointed by the Clerk, who read the warrant therefore, it was Voted that the Moderator be chosen by hand vote. Voted that Freeborn W. Cressy by Moderator. Upon Article 2. Water Pipe, Bridge Street A motion by Daniel Foster that the whole subject be referred to the Selectmen for them to report upon as soon as they are able was lost. Upon motion of Andrew E. Story it was Voted that the Selectmen be instructed to lay the water pipe through Bridge Street, to be reached by such route as in their judgment may seem best. Upon Article 3. Water Pipe, Hull's Lane. Upon motion of Adoniram Porter it was Voted that the Selectmen be authorized to extend the water pipe in Hull's Land as for as the previously of Maurice B. Younger. Upon motion of john I. Baker it was Voted that the Treasurer be authorized with the approval of the Selectmen, to hire a sum not exceeding seventy five hundred dollars in anticipation of taxes of the year eighteen hundred and eighty four and to issue notes of the Town therefor, and the debts incurred under the authority of this vote are hereby made payable from said taxes.
