1880-01-26Commonwealth of Massachusetts Essex ss. To either of the Constables of the town of Beverly, in said county Greeting: You are hereby directed to notify and warn, in the manner prescribed by the regulations of the town, the qualified voters of said town to meet at the Town Hall in said Beverly on Monday the twenty sixth day of January current at seven and one half o'clock in the afternoon for the following purposes, viz: 1st. To decide the manner of choosing a Moderator and to choose the same. 2d To see if the Town will let the Town Hall to John C. Fowler, for one walking match, under suitable regulations. Hereof fail not, and make due return of this warrant, with your doings thereon, before the time of holding said meeting. Given under our hands and seal this seventeenth day of January in the year one thousand eight hundred and eighty. Joseph Wilson Selectmen Freeborn W. Cressy of J. H. Young Beverly Essex ss. Pursuant to the foregoing warrant I have notified the persons therein named, as therein directed, by posting notifications stating the time, place and objects of said meeting at each of the several places in town required by the Town of Regulations. Lovett, Town Clerk At a legal meeting of the qualified voters of the Town of Beverly held at the Town Hall in said Town, in pursuance of the warrant recorded on the next preceding page, on Monday the twenty sixth day of January in the year one thousand eight hundred and eighty at seven and one half o'clock in the afternoon, the meeting having been called to order by the Town Clerk, who read the warrant therefor, it was Voted that the Moderator be chosen by hand vote. Voted that Henry Pickett Woodbury be Moderator. Upon Article 2 It was moved by John H. Watson that the prayer of the petitioners by granted. Voted, upon motion of Francis Norwood, that when the vote is taken on the article it be taken by hand vote. The motion of John H. Watson was then put to the meeting and lost.
