To one of the Constables of the town of Beverly. Greeting.
You are hereby required in the name of said Commonwealth to notify and warn in the usual manner
the qualified voters of said town to meet at the Town Hall, on Saturday, the Eighteenth day of
December, instant, at Three o'clock aRemoon, for the following purposes, viz:
1st To decide the manner of choosing a Moderator, and to choose the same.
2d To see if the town will authorize a contract to be made with the town of Danvers, for the right to
take water from any of the sources of supply of said Danvers, or from pipes leading therefrom, as
recommended in the report of the Selectmen under the vote of the town upon this subject passed
October 5th 1875.
3d To take action, if deemed expedient, upon the claim of S. L. King and also, upon the claim of H.
A. Merrill.
Hereof fail not, but make due retum of this warrant, with your doings thereon before said time.

as therein directed by posting notifications stating the time, place and objects of said meeting at all
the several places required by the Town Regulations.

At a meeting of the qualified voters of the Town of Beverly, held (in pursuance of the warrant
recorded on the next preceding page) at the Town Hall in said town, on Saturday the Eighteenth day
of December, in the year Eighteen hundred and Seventy Five, at Three o'clock afternoon.
Voted That a Moderator be chosen by hand vote
Voted that Freeborn W. Cressy be Moderator.
Upon Article 2d of the Warrant
Robert R. Endicott offered the following Resolutions.
Resolved 1st That it is not expedient to make any changes in the Water Supply for the town.
Resolved 2d That the Selectmen be required to employ Hon. B. F. Thomas to confer with the Salem
Water Comnqissioners, to ascertain the most favorable rate at which the Wenham Water will be
furnished for a term of five years and report at the town meeting in March next.
The 2d Resolution was withdrawn by the mover.
A motion was offered by Joseph Foster. "That the resolution of Mr. Endicott be laid over until after
the Award of the Commissioners appointed by the Supreme Court.
Augustus N. Clark, moved that the resolution be laid on the table. Mr. Clark withdrew his motion.
James R. Chapman, offered a Motion. "That the Selectmen be instructed to confer with Mr. Shed
of Boston, a Civil Engineer, in regard to the matter of Water Supply" which was put to the meeting
and lost.
When on motion of Charles H. Odell, it was
Voted that the whole question of this article be referred to a Committee of Seven Persons, to report
thereon at an adjournment of this meeting.
Voted That Robert R. Endicott, John Pickett and Augustus N. Clark be a Committee to retire and
report the names of Seven persons to constitute this Committee.
The nominating Committee having reported, it was,
Voted That Austen D. Kilham, James R. Chapman, Albert Perry, Robert R. Endicott, Joseph E.
Ober, Edward L. Giddings, and Andrew E. Cressy, constitute the Committee to whom is referred the
whole subject of this article.
Voted That John Pickett and Augustus N. Clark be added to the above Committee.
On motion offered by C. W. Studley
That the Committee upon the Water question this day appointed, be authorized to employ a
competent engineer, was rejected.
On motion of C. W. Studley
Voted that when the Committee this day appointed, upon the Water question are ready to report, the
Selectmen are requested to call a town meeting to act upon their Report.
Upon Article 3 of the Warrant
Upon the claim of S. L. King. A Motion offered by Isacher Lefavour "That the sum of One thousand
dollars be paid by the Selectmen to Mr. King to compromise the suit pending against the town, upon
the condition that Mr. King discharge the town from all cost and liability." - was put to the meeting
and lost, when
On Motion of Augustus N. Clark, it was
Voted that the selectmen be authorized to pay Mr. King the sum of Six hundred dollars, upon the
condition that Mr. King withdraw the suit now pending against the town, and that he also discharge
the town from all cost and liabilities.
Upon the claim of H. A. Merrill, it was
Voted that the claim of H. A. Merrill be referred to the Committee this day chosen to consider the
Water question.
Voted That this meeting be dissolved.
