At a meeting of the Selectmen the 8 of December 1685 the said Selectmen then agreed with
Roger Haskell to take and maintain Joshua Turland for one whole year from the date of this present
meeting of the Selectmen: viz to said Haskell to be provided for the said Joshua meat, drink and
clothing suitable and to have a provident care of him under which consideration the said Haskell
making good this his engagement the town is to pay or cause to be paid to the set Haskell five pounds
in current pay as in grain and the like kind the one half to be paid sometime in March next ensuing
the date above said the other have to be paid sometime in October in the year of our Lord 1686 and
in case the said Turland be greatly disenabled by sickness or any other sudden accident so that he is
an extraordinary charge to the said Haskell the town is to consider him in making some reasonable
allowance for it and the said Haskell is engaged to return the said Joshua when the year is ended with
a good suit of apparel unto the town unless the said town and Haskell do agree for any longer time.

and ye overplus to return to the town
