1685-03-11[Selectmen March 11, 1685] The 11:1:1684/5 constable William Livermore paid eight shillings in money the which did fully balance for the next above-mentioned rate. th At a meeting of the Selectmen the 11 of 1 mo. 1684/5 then reckoned with Joseph Dodge who was Constable for the year 1682 and ye said Dodge have together with 16 bushels and half of merchantable malt now ordered to quartermaster William Dodge made full payment of all rates committed to him during the time of his said Dodge’s constableship, any former record notwithstanding. Also he said William Dodge doth except of the sixteen bushels and half of malt abovesaid as forty shillings in money & twenty shillings in pay due to said Wm. Dodge from the town for money disbursed about the new meetinghouse & the said Wm. Dodge is hereby paid 2 £ in money and1 £ in pay. At the same meeting of the Selectmen Joseph Dodge & Jonathan Boyles produced the receipt as followeth: Received by order of Joseph Dodge & Jonathan Boyles for the rate may 1682 besides ye forty shillings I ordered them to pay for the meetinghouse sixty-eight pounds. Per me Jonathan Hale ye 26:12:1684/5 At the same meeting of the Selectmen were chosen for way wardens Richard Patch and Robert Cue for the year ensuing. At the same meeting of the Selectmen were chosen for Fence Viewers Jonathan Giles & Mark Haskell for ye year ensuing. At the same meeting was chosen for Clerk of the Market Jonathan Lovett jun. for ye year ensuing. At the same meeting Joseph Morgan was chosen for Cooler of Staves for ye year ensuing. At the same meeting Phillip Babson was chosen Packer of Fish for the Town of Beverly for the year ensuing. At the same meeting of the Selectmen Mr. Andrew Elliott sen. was chosen for Sealer of Leather for the Town of Beverly for the year ensuing. At the same meeting of the Selectmen were chosen for tythingmen as followeth: George Hull, swornRichard Bradford, sworn John Balch, swornJohn Black Thom. Gage, sworn Ye 11:1 mo. 1684/5. At a meeting of the Selectmen then reckoned with at from Herrick was Constable for ye year 1682 and he has fully pay for all rates committed to him & now all former accounts balanced between said Herrick and the Town. th The 11: one month 1684/5. In a meeting of the Selectmen then reckoned with Edward Dodge who was Constable for ye year’84 for the one moiety of a half country rate may ye 17: 4: 1684 and he hath fully paid and satisfied for the abovesaid rate. At the same meeting of the Selectmen then paid to David Perkins ten shillings & ten pence which is in full for all debts due to said Perkins on the Town Book.
