1684-08-31[Selectmen August 31, 1684] 31:8: ‘84. At a meeting of the Selectmen at the house of Ensign Corning, Constable Richard Ober brought in an account of nine & twenty pounds & two shillings as will appear by the next receipt: Received November 28, 1683 from Richard Ober now and formally by Samuel Goobins nine pounds and two shillings in money on account of Beverly rates I say received per me. James Russell, Trea. Received October 28, 1684 from Richard Ober on account of Beverly rates 1683: the sum of eight pounds in country pay & twelve pounds in money by several notes. James Russell, Trea. At the same meeting Constable George Standley made payment by receipt as followeth: th towards a quarter rate bearing date the eight of the 2:1681. Boston February the 20 1681/2 received of Lieut. Paul Thorndike by the order of James Russell Esq. Treasurer the sum of forty-two shillings & six pence being due from George Standley, Constable of Beverly, I say received per me. Rich. Sprague At the same meeting of the Selectmen then reckoned with William Dodge the maltster & there remained due unto the said Dodge three pounds for and in consideration of malt expended about the building of the Meetinghouse and sixteen shillings which was not minded. At the same meeting of the Selectmen then reckoned with George Standley and all accounts were balance for all former rates committed to set Standley whatsoever is said in any former record only said Standley stands and remains in the town’s debt the just sum of one pound eight shillings and two pence. It is to be understood upon further consideration that the said Standley stands indebted by only twenty shillings. At the same meeting of the Selectmen then reckoned with Constable Richard Ober for all country & Towne rates committed unto him during his Constableship and there remained due unto the town from said Ober to balance two pounds & five shillings. At the same meeting after the next above reck. the said Ober paid thirty shillings in money which balances the abovesaid 2 £: 5s. which thirty shillings was then paid unto the persons following: to Corporal West 11s. To Andrew Elliott senior 5s. to Sergeant Hill 5s. and to Sergeant Woodberry 9s. which they went out of their pockets for the town’s use to pay former deputies & remains due unto Sergeant Woodberry 5s.: 6d. in money lent for the use of the use of the town and likewise there remains due unto Ensign Corning in money two shillings and six pence for money disbursed for firewood for Mr. Hale and there is likewise due unto Andrew Elliott senior10s. for boards for the town’s use. Said Elliott was allowed 10s. in his Town rate.
