1684-02-17[Selectmen February 17, 1684] 12:17:12, 1684. At a meeting of the Selectmen at the house of Sergeant Peter Woodberry, Richard Woodberry and John Bond were then and there chosen and appointed to be surveyors of the general field fences in particular and all other fences in Beverly and to see that all such fences be well set up and in good repair by the tenth of April next ensuing the date hereof according to law and to stand surveyors one whole year from the date hereof. At the same meeting John Conant jun., & Ephraim Herrick sen. by said Herrickā€™s consent were chosen surveyors of the highways in Beverly for the ensuing year and to repair all such highways as occasion shall present with speed and convenience. At the same meeting there was an order made as followeth: that all swine that shall be found going upon the common in Beverly or any part thereof shall be sufficiently yoked by the tenth of April next and so to be sufficiently kept yoked until the fourteenth day of November following and upon any failure herein the owners of such hogs or hog shall pay for each swine one shilling for every offense. At the same meeting Richard Patch is chosen for the prosecution of the next above order about swine and to see that no hog or hogs are so trespassing for the said time and to have the penalty imposed by said order for his pains. At the same meeting Constable George Standley reckoned by receipt from the country treasurer wherein he paid to said Treasurer 196 £: 6s. the receipt as followeth viz.
