1669-12-18[Selectmen December 18, 1669] December 18 '69 It is also ordered by us that from this time forward whosoever amongst us shall entertain any inmates to harbor within them shall without approbation from the Selectmen shall forfeit for every week’s entertainment 20 shillings per week. Whereas John West, William Dodge sen., John Raymond sen.. & John Patch being deputed by the inhabitants of Beverly to lay out highways & to give satisfaction to the proprietors thereof that none might be damnified through our convenience. We accordingly in allowance for the country way lying between Manchester & Salem Ferry which is the property of Mr. Paul Thorndike have allowed him for his satisfaction one parcel of land be it more or less lying in our commons between that land which is formally William Woodberry’s and his own land called Sawyer’s Plain on the east side of it th from the bounds of the one to the bounds of the other at each end to enjoy forever.
