1671-02-20[February 20, 1671] thth At a meeting of the selectmen the 20 of the 12 mo. 1670. Present Tho. Lathrop Humphrey Woodberry John Rayment John West Paul Thorndike It is agreed with Jonathan Byles to make a pound for the town the dimensions 4 square with 2 pole on each side with sufficient posts and rails, 6 rails in each length suitable to the effecting the work for the purpose to be accomplished & to be set up before [illegible] June ensuing the date [illegible] And the said Jonathan is to have for this pound aforesaid & to make a payne of stocks both to be brought in & set up in Beverly 50 shillings to be paid as follows viz. He is to have 10 trees upon the Commons, (excepting white oaks) at 8 D. per tree & the rest to be paid in a town rate at or before th the 25 December 1671. Witness my hand. Jonathan Byles
