1784-03-05th At a Meeting of the Selectmen March ye 5 1784. Ordered the Treasurer to pay William Hazeltine £ 6.13.4 for keeping up the District School in Bass River District this winter season. Ordered the Treasurer to pay Capt. Joshua Cleaves 25/1, he being over taxed that sum in his personal estate in 1783. Ordered the Treasurer to pay Jonathan Conant four pounds eighteen shillings and four pence 63/5 of the said sum for sundry necessaries delivered the wife of Asa Herrick for the support of her family and 34/11 in full of his account for making taxes & together with 60/ before received as per his account on file. th Ordered the Treasurer to pay Capt. John Lovett 4 ten pounds seventeen shillings 63/ of said sum for the second year’s interest of a note due from the Town dated August 1st. 1781 of £ 52.8.11 and £ 7.14.0 of said sum for his account in full for making Town and Commonwealth Taxes, taking care of the and sundry other services done for the Town as more fully will appear as per his account on file for the year past given in four orders. Ordered the Treasurer to pay Mr. Robert Standley four pounds ten shillings and ten pence in two orders being in full together with what he before received of his account for making Town and Commonwealth Taxes, settling Town accounts and many other services done for the Town as more fully will appear by his account on file. For Ordered the Treasurer to pay Mr. Thomas Woodbury four pound eight shillings in two orders being in full of his account for making taxes, taking care of the poor and settling accounts and sundry other affairs of the Town as more particularly will appear as per his account on file. Ordered the Treasurer to pay Robert Standley 22/10 for abatements in his list when Constable viz. 7/6 William Peirce’s tax, extreme poor; 15/ William Groves, ditto unfortunate. Ordered the Treasurer to pay Mr. Jonathan Conant 39/8 for taxes he was taxed for Asa Herrick’s land which he was not to pay. Ordered the Treasurer to pay Joseph Wood thirteen pound seventeen shillings and nine pence in four orders being in full of his account for making and recording of Highways, Town and Commonwealth Taxes, taking care of the poor, settling accounts and 60/ of it for his service the year past as Town Clerk and for cash paid and sundry services done for the Town, the particulars of which will more fully appear by his account this day given in on file. Ordered the Treasurer to pay Mr. Samuel Goodridge £ 24.11.8 in full of his account for expenses of the Town meetings, Town committees, Selectmen and Assessors etc. etc. at his house during the course of the year past as per his account on file, in five orders. Ordered the Treasurer to pay Hon. James Sullivan Esq. 48/ for counsel and assistance at the Council in behalf of the Town for endeavoring to procure all money for the maintenance of Elizabeth Gage and of the estate of her husband Andrew Gage. Ordered the Treasurer to pay Israel Creesy £ 6.13.4 for keeping of a District School near Derby Farm, so-called, this winter season. Ordered the Treasurer pay Jacob Herrick six pounds of the Town’s money being in part of his account for keeping school etc.
