1783-12-02nd At a meeting of the Selectmen December the 2 1783. Ordered the Treasurer to pay wid. Priscilla Williams 60/ on account of the maintenance of her son, under poor circumstances. Ordered the Treasurer to pay Constable William Hazeltine twelve pound seven shillings and two pence for the following abatement in his list of assessments for 1782. Viz. £ s d 4.2.10 Samuel Tuck’s tax, he agreeing to keep his father on that account. 0.2.0 Samuel Stone’s highway tax, over taxed that sum. 2.9.1 one Tower’s tax, absconded out of town. 11.18.6 William Gage, lost at sea, left nothing. 1.13.9 one Richard’s tax, not belonging in town. 11.6 Sarah Ives’ highway tax, deceased, no estate. 1.0.7 Benjamin Batchelder, under poor circumstances. 0.12.6 George Cabot’s mother’s highway tax, not improving. 1.2.9 Martha Abbott’s poll taxes, on account of her sons being taken. £12.7.2 Ordered the Treasurer to pay John Thissell, Surveyor of the Highways, 14/2 for extraordinary charge and labor done on the Highways as Surveyor in 1783. Ordered the Treasurer to pay Samuel Goodridge 42/ in part of his account for Selectmen expenses etc. Ordered the Treasurer to pay Capt. Joseph Lee seven pound he being over taxed that sum in 1783. Ordered the Treasurer to pay Capt. Hugh Hill sixteen pound ten shillings, he being over taxed that sum in 1782. Ordered the Treasurer to pay Capt. Thomas Davis twenty pound, he being taxed in the year 1783 for monies in the Continental Loan, that sum being excused from taxation. Ordered the Treasurer to pay Mr. Jacob Herrick six pound six shillings and eight pence in three orders in part to keeping Grammar School in this Town.
