1783-03-27th At a Meeting of the Selectmen of Beverly March 27 1783. Ordered the following warrant to issued out as followeth. Essex, ss. To Mr. William Herrick Jr. one of the Constables of the Town of Beverly. Greeting. In the name of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts you are hereby required forthwith to notify and warn all the male persons of twenty-one years of age belonging to said Town having a freehold estate within said Town of the annual worth of three pounds or any estate to the value of sixty pounds to assemble and meet together on Monday the seventh day of April next at two o’clock afternoon at stated place for holding Town Meetings in said Town to choose a Governor, Lieut. Governor and persons to be Senators and Counselors agreeable to the Constitution of the Commonwealth of the Massachusetts hereof fail not but make due return of this warrant with your doings thereon to the Selectmen before said time. Clerk th At a Meeting of the Selectmen March ye 27 1783 they ordered the Town Clerk to issue out the following warrant for calling of Town Meeting. viz. Essex, ss. To Mr. William Herrick Jr. one of the Constables of the Town of Beverly. Greeting. In the name of Commonwealth of Massachusetts you are hereby notified and required forthwith to notify and warn the freeholders and other inhabitants of the Town of Beverly that are qualified according to law to vote in Town affairs to assemble and meet together on Monday the seventh day of April next at the stated place for holding Town Meetings in said Town at 3 o’clock in the afternoon. 1stly. To determine what sum of money they will grant to be assessed and raised on the polls and estates of said Town for the purposes of paying the Town’s debts and defraying the necessary charges arising within the said Town. 2ly.To see what instructions the Town will give to their Treasurer relative to his discharging of the executions out against the Town and to see what measures they will come into for the more speedy bringing into the Treasurer the outstanding taxes and come into such ways and measures relative to those affairs as they in their wisdom shall think best.
