1782-08-12th At a meeting of the Selectmen of Beverly August 12 1782. th They agreeable to a vote of Town on the 11 of Decbr. last do grant Capt. Simeon Brown Liberty to accommodate himself with a way to his shop, by his turning the water that usually runs down on the front of his land across the road of Mr. Dodge’s side of the way by building a bridge across the road on the descent of the field against his land with a sufficient water course under the same, free of cost from the Town, and to fill up the ditch where the water usually in did run in such a manner as shall not cost any water that arise out of the same into the road as to do any damage, provided the said Brown will give bond to the Town to keep said bridge in good repair and the water courses open and clear, free from any obstruction for the future, free of charge from the Town. th At a meeting of Selectmen of Beverly August 12 1782. They agreeable to a vote of the Town do hereby direct Doctor Israel Woodberry, Surveyor of the Highways, of Ward No. 6 to fill up with rocks the mud hole at the eastern end of the bridge at Smith’s Hollow, so called, so that the water shall not for the future stand in the road and so that carts and carriages may conveniently pass along the east end of said bridge. th At a meeting of the Selectmen of Beverly August 12 1782. They agreeable to a vote of the Town do hereby direct Retire Trask, Surveyor of the Highways of Ward No. 5 to fill up with rocks the mud hole at the eastern end of the bridge near his house so that carts and carriages may conveniently pass along by the eastern end of said bridge and so that the water will not stand in the road there and clear the water course under said bridge as much as is necessary.
