1782-11-05[Selectmen November 5, 1782]
The following agreement was made November 5, 1782 by and between Joseph Wood on the one part
and the Selectmen as Overseers of the Poor of the Town of Beverly on the other part, witness that
the said Joseph Wood doth for the consideration hereinafter mentioned and performed, doth covenant
to keep and board Mary Wood, being a person under their care, five months and two days expiring
on the seventh of April next, doctor’s bills, nursing and apparel excepted in consideration of which
the said selectmen as Overseers of the Poor covenant and promise to pay him eight shillings per week
during the whole of said term to be paid one half in three months the other at the expiration of said
time all which we promise to perform.
