1781-03-01At a Meeting of the Selectmen March 1st. 1781. They ordered that a Town meeting should be warned and held on the 12th day of March instant at ten o’clock in the morning at the stated place for holding of town meetings in said Town for to act on the following particulars. Viz. 1l y. To choose town officers for the ensuing year and a Committee of Correspondence, Inspection and Safety viz. 2ly. To choose a County Treasurer and a County Register of Deeds etc.. 3ly. To see if the Town will mend their Highways the ensuing year by a the polls and estates of the inhabitants and determine what sum of money they will grant to be raised for that purpose and make such regulations relative to the highways and repairing the same as they shall think proper. 4ly. To see if the Town will give Liberty for their swine to go at-large the ensuing year being yoked and ringed as the law directs. 5ly. To choose a Committee to supply the families of the soldiers that are in the Continental Army agreeable to the resolves of the General Court and determine how said Committee shall be supplied with money to enable them to perform that service. 6ly. To act on the request Archalus Brown and others to see if the Town will grant them Liberty to work out their highway tax the ensuing year on the way leading from their dwelling house to the country road. 7ly. To see if the Town will come into any further measures for the procuring the men sent for from this town to fill up the Continental Army for three years or during the War and raise money for that purpose if thought proper and act and to any thing relative to procuring of said men as they shall think most for the public good and there was a warrant issued out to Constable William Hazeltine to warn the same accordingly. Attest.Joseph Wood, T. Clerk Ordered the Treasurer to pay Henry Herrick the sum of £ 500 for the keeping the Grammar School one month expiring the 8th of February.. Ordered the Treasurer to pay Deac. Robert Roundy three hundred pounds in full for keeping his sister Deborah six months expiring on the 7th of April next.
