1781-01-24th At a meeting of the Selectmen Jany. 24. Ordered the Treasurer to pay to Francis Smith, Surveyor of the Highways, sixty pounds fifteen shillings for labor and extra charge on the Highways in his ward. Ordered the Treasurer to present Zachariah Stone seventeen pounds for abatement of a poll tax in the Beef Rate, through mistake. Ordered the Treasurer to pay William Taylor three hundred and thirteen pounds six shillings for labor and extra charge as Surveyor on the Highways as per account. Ordered the Treasurer to pay to Capt. Joseph Knowlton one hundred and forty-seven pounds in full of his account for the Selectmen’s and Assessors’ expenses at his house in taking valuations. Ordered the Treasurer to pay Capt. Joseph Rae eighty one pound it being for abatement of his son’s poll tax in 1780, being taken and absent. Ordered the Treasurer to pay to William Brown fifteen pounds, he being over taxed that sum in 1780. Ordered the Treasurer to pay Joseph Wood four hundred & thirty-six pound ten shillings in full of his account as followeth. Viz. The following is account of orders drawn on the Town Treasurer for abatement etc. in the Hard Money Tax. th At a meeting of the Selectmen Jan. 24 1781. Ordered the Treasurer to pay Peter Homan 5/4 poll tax, not of age. On the 6th of February on Dea. John Conant’s administrator, abatement of his poll tax, he died not long after tax is made 5/ . Ordered the Treasurer pay Benjamin Shaw 5/ abatement of his son’s poll, in captivity.
