1781-08-14th At a meeting of the Selectmen August 14 1781. th They ordered that a Town Meeting should be warned verbally and held on Friday the 17 day of August instant at 4 o’clock in the afternoon at the stated place for holding of Town meetings in said Town. th To see if the Town will reconsider their grant of monies on the 18 day of May last for paying of the Town’s debts and defraying the necessary charges arising within the same. Also their grant of £ 500 th on the 18 July last for procuring of clothing and beef etc. and to see what sums of money they will grant to be hired or assessed and raised on the polls and estates within said Town to pay the Town’s debts and defray the Town’s charges and for procuring of beef and clothing sent for by government and to see what measures they will come in to for the procuring of the militia sent for from this Town and raise money for that purpose and come in to any measures for perfecting of the above said business as they shall think proper. And to see what directions they will give their Town’s Treasurer about their taxes outstanding. And there was a warrant issued out to Constable Benjamin Obear to warn the Ferry, Farms and Bald Hill [districts.] The following are records of abatements and orders for hard money. th At a meeting of the Selectmen June 5 1781. Ordered the Treasurer to pay Carrie Woodberry and £ 0-17-10 hard money for the abatement of his hard money tax in 1780, he being in captivity, if alive. th At a meeting of the Selectmen June 20 1781. Ordered the Treasurer to pay Peter Pride £ 0-12-0, he being over taxed that sum by mistake in the hard money tax 1780. rd At a meeting of the Selectmen July 23 1781. Ordered the Treasurer to pay Capt. Asa Leech thirty shillings for five days classing & making taxes for the Town. Ordered the Treasurer to pay Robert Standley thirty shillings hard money for five days services for classing the inhabitants and making taxes 1781. Ordered the Treasurer to pay Weedon Cole thirty shillings hard money for five days service in class s;ing and making taxes for the Town one thousand seven hundred eighty. Ordered the Treasurer to pay Dea. William Dodge thirty shillings hard money five days service in classing of the inhabitants and making of taxes. Ordered the Treasurer to pay Joseph Wood three pounds hard money in part of his account for classing of the inhabitants and making of taxes etc. in 1781. Ordered the Treasurer to pay William Homan thirty shillings, it appearing that he was over taxed that sum in 1780 in the hard money tax. Ordered the Treasurer to pay Capt. George Dodge two pounds seven shillings hard money abatement of part of his tax by reason of misfortune by sea etc. Ordered the Treasurer to pay Richard Croft £ 0-12-4 hard money for abatement of his hard money taxes in 1780 & 1781, he being poor etc.. Ordered the Treasurer to pay Zachariah Stone 5/ for abatement of a poll taxed through mistake in 1780 the hard money tax.
