1781-06-05th At a meeting of the Selectmen June the 5 1781. They ordered the Treasurer to pay constable Benja. Obear in old emission nine hundred and two pounds eighteen shillings it being for abatement of taxes in his list in 1780 as followeth. £ s d 25.3.0 for Samuel Roundy, tax, long absent at sea. 67.9.0 for John Rae ditto, by reason of misfortune. 67.9.0 for Robert Stephens ditto, in captivity. 62.0.0 for Joshua Wallis ditto, being taken by the enemy. 42.6.0 for Hannah Cox, ditto being poor. 95.0.0 for Elisha Ellinwood ditto, in captivity. 69.16.0 for Paul Foster ditto, being in captivity. 74.10.0 for William Malloy ditto, in captivity. 49.1.0 for John White ditto, in captivity. 64.0.0 Joseph Potter ditto, not of this town. 6.0.0 for John Porter ditto, extreme poor. 50.13.0 for Samuel Hill ditto, taking. 49.1.0 for James Dennis ditto, in captivity. 57.1.0 for Alexander Carrico ditto, in captivity. 902.18.0 36.0. for Israel Lovett ditto, been taken by enemy. 57.9.0 for William Porter ditto, been taken etc.. £902.18.0 Ordered the Treasurer to pay Amos Hitchings £ 30 being over taxed that sum in 1780. th At a meeting of the Selectmen Mar. 61781, they ordered that a Town meeting should be verbally warned and held on the eighth day of March instant at three o’clock afternoon at the stated place for holding of Town meetings in said Town. 1ly. To see what instructions the Town will give their Committee for procuring the men for this Town for three years or during the War relative to their procuring men out of the State of New Hampshire or any other State and give them any other instructions as may be thought proper. 2ly. To see what for the measures they will come into for raising, hiring or procuring of money for procuring of men for the Continental Army for three years or during the War and there was a warrant issued out to Constable Jonathan Dodge to warn Royal Side [Ryal Side] and Bass River Districts and to Constable Weeden Cole to warn Bald Hill District and to Constable Robert Standley to warn the Farm District and to Benjamin Obear to warn the Ferry District agreeably to the above said order.
