1781-05-01st At a meeting of the Selectmen May 1 1781. Ordered the Treasurer to pay wid. Elizabeth Gage £ 84.9.0 for abatement of a poll tax to her, not of age in 1780. Ordered the Treasurer to pay Benjamin Sprigg £ 84.9.0 for abatement of his taxes in 1780 by reason of his misfortune by sea etc. Ordered the Treasurer to pay Capt. Samuel Foster seventy pound, being overtaxed that sum in 1780. Ordered the Treasurer to pay Capt. William Langdell two hundred and eighty pounds in full th for keeping of Molly Hales and Molly Ellinwood 6 months expiring on the 7 of April instant. Ordered the Treasurer to pay wid. Joanna Woodberry £ 17.10 for the use and improvement of her land taken up by the Fort standing on the same for the year 1780. st At a meeting of the Selectmen May 1 1781. th Ordered that a Town Meeting be warned & held on Monday the 14 day of May instant agreeable to the New Constitution at 2 o’clock in the afternoon at the stated place for holding of Town Meetings in said Town. To elect one or more persons to represent in the Great and General Court appointed to be convened and held for the government service at the State House in Boston or such other place as may hereafter be appointed for the General Court to convene and agreeably to the Constitution upon the last Wednesday of May instant. And there was a warrant issued out to Constable Benjamin Obear to warn the same accordingly.Attest. Joseph Wood, T. Clerk. st At a meeting of the Selectmen May 1 1781. th They ordered that a Town Meeting should be warned and held on Monday the 14 day of May instant at 3 o’clock in the afternoon at the stated place for holding of Town Meetings in this Town. 1ly. To receive the report of their Town Treasurer relative to the Towns debts and give such directions relative to paying the same as they shall think proper and act anything relative to said debt to stay shall think will be for the best. 2ly. To determine what sum of money they will grant to be assessed and raised on the polls and estates of the Inhabitants within said Town for to pay the Town’s debt and defray the necessary charges arising within the same. 3ly. To determine what additional sum they would have assessed on those classes or individuals which neglect or refuse paying their proportions towards preparing a man or men and direct how those classes or persons that have advanced their money for procuring a man or men shall come at their money again where any individuals in their class neglect and refuse paying in their part of a man or men and act and do any thing relative thereto as shall be thought necessary. 4ly. To see if the Town will grant Benjamin Pickett liberty to erect a house on the Training Field and afford him such assistance towards erecting and completing the same as they shall think proper and there was a warrant issued out to Constable Benjamin Ober to warn the same accordingly.
