1780-10-03rd At a Meeting of the Selectmen October 3 1780. Ordered the Treasurer to pay the wife of Daniel Woodberry one hundred and twenty pounds in full for keeping of Susanna Ellinwood’s child three months expiring on the 7th instant. Ordered the Treasurer to pay Peter Pride Jr.£ 15.2.0 it being for abatement of his taxes in 1780, he being long in captivity. Ordered the Treasurer to pay Benjamin Smith£ 10.7.0 abatement of Thissell’s heirs’ tax in 1780 which he is guardian for by reason of the depreciation of the currency. Ordered the Treasurer to pay Rice Dodge£ 11.4.0 abatement of his poll tax in 1779, he being missing at sea, if living. Ordered the Treasurer to pay the heirs of James Meacham £ 11.4.0 abatement of his poll tax, who died before the tax was made. Ordered the Treasurer to pay Constable Samuel Dodge one hundred six pounds seventeen shilling for sundry abatement in his list and services he had done for the Town as followeth. Viz. £ s d 36.19.6 for Ebenezer Meacham’s tax, missing at sea. 16.8.0 for Samuel Giles’ tax, his son died abroad. 18.9.6 for John Baker’s tax, long missing at sea. 15.10.0 for William Wood’s tax, absconded from the Town. 2.10.0 for Josiah Ober’s guardian for Bowles heirs he not that year improving the interest. 5.0.0 he being over taxed for personal estate. 12.0.0 for warning verbally four districts for Town Meeting. 106.17.0 Ordered the Treasurer to pay Constable Timothy Leech forty-four pounds fifteen 12.0.0 said some for warning verbally four wards. 1.7.0 for Mrs. Brown’s land, taxed through mistake. 31.8.0 for Benjamin Balch’s rates, deceased. 44.15.0 Ordered the Treasurer to pay William Butman£ 260.0.0 in full for keeping and maintaining of John Martin three months expires on the seventh instant. Ordered the Treasurer to pay Capt. William Langdell £ 140 in full for keeping of Molly Hales and Molly Ellinwood 3 months expiring on the 7th instant. Ordered the Treasurer to pay wid. Hannah Giles one hundred and thirty pounds in full for th keeping of Elizabeth Hayward’s child three months expiring on the 7 instant. rd At a Meeting of the Selectmen October 3 1780 they ordered that a Town Meeting should be verbally warned and held on Monday the ninth day of October instant at one o’clock in the afternoon at the stated place for holding Town Meetings in this Town of the legally qualified voters in the choice of Representatives agreeable to the new form of government. To elect and depute one or more persons to serve for and represent them at a Great and General Court appointed to be convened, held and kept for the government service at the State House at Boston in the County of Suffolk on the last Wednesday of October instant and so during their session or sessions agreeable to the results of the Convention appointed to make a new Constitution and frame of government for this State. And there was a warrant issued out to Constable William Hazeltine to warn Royal Side [Ryal Side], Ferry and Farm Districts accordingly and one other warrant issued out to Constable Jonathan Dodge to warn Bass River and Bald Hill Districts accordingly. rd At a meeting of the Selectmen October 3 1780. They ordered that a Town Meeting should be verbally warned and held on Monday the ninth day of October instant a one of the clock in the afternoon at the stated place for holding of Town meetings in this Town. 1ly. To see what measures the Town will come into for the procuring of 19,880 weight of beef for th the use of Government agreeable to a resolve of the General Court of the 25 of September last and raise money for that purpose and act thereon as they shall think proper. 2ly. To see what directions they will give their Selectmen relative to their procuring of the blankets, shirts, shoes and stockings sent to this Town for by the General Court and raise money for the procuring the same and pass such votes relative thereto as they shall think best. 3ly. To see what the Town will do relative to the Hon. Richard Derby, Esq. paying his taxes in this Town and give such instructions relative thereto as they shall think just and equitable and act and do anything relative thereto as they shall think proper. And there was a warrant issued out to Constable William Hazeltine to verbally warn Royal Side [Ryal nd Side], Ferry and Farm districts and to Jonathan Dodge 2 a Constable to verbally warn Bass River and Bald Hill Districts accordingly.Attest, Joseph Wood, T.
