1780-06-08th At a meeting of the Selectmen June 8 1780. Ordered the Treasurer to pay of Josiah Batchelder Esq. sixty pounds for a book to record taxes and for the Town’s use. Ordered the Treasurer to pay Francis Gates ninety pounds in full of his account for keeping of 20 of the poor of Gloucester sent by the Towns of Charlestown and Cambridge etc.. Ordered the Treasurer to pay Jonathan Creesy to £ 6 abatement of part of his tax 1780 that he was taxed for Mrs. Batchelder’s land. At the above said meeting of the Selectmen they ordered that a Town meeting be verbally th warned and held on Monday the 12 date of June instant at 2 o’clock afternoon at the stated place for holding town meetings in said town to see what measures the Town will come into for the procuring the militia sent for from this Town to reinforce the Continental Army and raise money for that purpose and come into such measures relative thereto as they shall think proper. nd And there was warrant issued out to Constable Jonathan Dodge 2 to verbally warn Royal Side [Ryal Side], Bass River and the Ferry Districts and one warrant to Weeden Cole to verbally warn Bald Hill and the Farm District accordingly.
