1779-03-02nd At a Meeting of the Selectmen Mar. 2 1779. Ordered the Treasurer to pay William Morse seven pounds nineteen shillings and two pence for the abatement of his poll tax for 1777 & 1778, most of the time he being in captivity. Ordered the Treasurer to pay the wife of Jonathan Presson 42/ being on account of her husband being long in captivity. Ordered the Treasurer to pay Azariah Woodberry£ 6 for abatement of his poll tax, he being in a poor state of health. Ordered the Treasurer to pay Benjamin Smith thirty-seven pounds and 3d for interest money on two notes for one year and 8/9 over tax in personal estate in 1778. Ordered the Treasurer to pay Benjamin Woodberry fifteen pounds ten shillings, nine pounds 3/ of said sum is for abatement in his list of Town and State assessments for 1777 as followeth. Viz. Nathaniel Presson tax 1-4-0, wrong taxed for the war. James Woodberry Haskell’s ditto 1-13-11, long in captivity. Joseph marvels ditto 1-16-1, died in captivity. Andrew Obear’s ditto 1-4-2, long missing, if alive. Jonathan Foster’s ditto 1-15-11, being long in captivity. nd Joseph Obear’s 2 ditto 1-5-9, died in captivity. James Ober’s highway ditto 3-4 worked out the same. 50/ for warning verbally the Farms and Bald Hill Wards four times and the Farms twice. 67/over taxed in 1777 & 1778. Ordered the Treasurer to pay Benjamin Obear 30/ being over taxed that some in 1778. Ordered the Treasurer to pay Joseph Baker twenty-two pounds fourteen shillings in full for the Selectmen and Assessors and the militia officers expenses at his house in 1778. Ordered the Treasurer to pay Mark Dodge four pounds, he being over taxed that sum in 1778. Ordered the Treasurer to pay Benjamin Leech fourteen pounds, two shillings in full of his account for extra charge as Surveyor of the Highways in repairing the breach on the Highway near the new wharf. Ordered the Treasurer to pay Henry Herrick Jr. 40 pounds for keeping Grammar School one th month expiring 24 Feby. last & 9/ for a lock for school house door upon Town. Ordered the Treasurer to pay Henry Herrick Esq. eighteen pounds, in full of his account for boarding, nursing and providing necessaries etc. for wid. Lydia Hales while sick at his house four weeks at his house in 1778 Decbr. Ordered the Treasurer to pay wid. Jane Elliott eight pounds seven shillings being in part for damages she sustained by reason of the Town entrenching on the land at Tuck’s Point under her care. Ordered the Treasurer to pay Edward Trask, a constable, twelve pounds fifteen shillings to£ 9-0-0 of said sum for warning of 6 town meetings by notifications 45/ for warning verbally Royal Side [Ryal Side] Ward twice and the Ferry Ward one 30/ for warning of the Town officers to be sworn in 1778. Ordered the Treasurer to pay wid. Martha Abbott 90/ in full for house rent for Mathias Claxton’s family in her house in 1778.
